FixItOttawa [in-progress] FixItOttawa will allow people to identify streetlights that are out, grafitti, potholes, abandoned cars, illegal dumping and various other issues with automated notifications to both Councillors and the City. In doing so, duplicate requests are reduced and the progress of these issues are tracked for all to see. FixIt Ottawa is very much based on mySocety’s FixMyStreet.com and should be ready sometime later this summer. |

Skating Maps Mashup This still needs to be moved over from my personal site. Room for improvement, adding Public Swimming Pools as well. |

XML Datafeeds The idea here is to provide some basic RSS feeds or XML data of things like City News, Development Application feeds and/or email updates. All of this information is currently limited to on-site viewing, and doesn’t allow for much creativity in consuming and using the data. Much of this would rely on responsible screen scraping, or coordination with City staff. |

An event similar to the Ottawa Web Weekend, only with the goal of ending up with a web-based service or site that remains in the public domain, and benefits the residents of Ottawa. In doing so, the excitement of developing an entire application remains, but the complications arising from ownership, operation, and management of the resulting product are eliminated. |
If you’re interested in getting involved, I’m hoping to setup a meeting at the Clocktower or similar venue, chris [at] openottawa.org.
